Big 5 Serengeti Safari and Wildlife Encounters:

The Serengeti is home to an abundance of resident game year-round, so prepare for exhilarating encounters with Africa’s Big 5—elephants, lions, leopards, buffalos, and rhinoceros—as you embark on unforgettable game drives, cameras at the ready! Highly knowledgeable and skilled guides and trackers will lead you on exciting, immersive expeditions, offering expert insights and ensuring you witness the incredible diversity of wildlife in their natural habitats. January and February is calving season in the southern Serengeti and with all these babies around, sightings of predators such as lion and cheetah can be frequent and exciting. March is traditionally when the long rains start, but by June the days are warm and mostly clear with beautiful weather continuing through to November when the short rains arrive. Imagine the rush of adrenaline as you spot a majestic lioness stalking her prey or a graceful leopard perched on a tree limb. These luxury Serengeti safari encounters will create indelible memories, bringing you closer to the untamed beauty of the animal kingdom.

Serengeti: Unveiling the splendor of a luxury safari experience - wildebeest migration

The Great Wildebeest Migration in the Serengeti:

Undoubtedly one of nature’s greatest spectacles, the Great Wildebeest Migration is an extraordinary natural phenomenon that will leave you in awe. With front-row seats, you’ll witness millions of wildebeests, zebras, and other wildlife traverse the Serengeti plains in search of fresh grazing, braving their way through predators and crocodile-infected, treacherous river crossings. The precise timing of the migration is entirely dependent upon the rainfall patterns each year and can therefore be unpredictable, however as a guideline, in March the herds start moving north from the southern Serengeti to the central Serengeti plains; by May, the herds will be marching through the Serengeti’s central areas into the western corridor, crossing the famous Grumeti river around June and continuing north in July for the first Mara River crossings of the season, which continues into August and sometimes September as the herds move back and forth over the Mara River in search for the best grazing. The sheer magnitude and drama of this migration will leave you spellbound, a spectacle that truly showcases the power and resilience of nature.

Cultural Immersions in the Serengeti:

The Serengeti is not only a sanctuary for wildlife but also a vibrant tapestry of diverse cultures. Engage in enriching cultural immersions by visiting local Maasai villages. Immerse yourself in their traditions, dances, and rituals, gaining a deeper understanding of their way of life. Connect with the Maasai people, known for their warmth and hospitality, as they share their stories and traditions. These encounters provide a unique opportunity to bridge cultural gaps and foster a sense of appreciation for the local communities that coexist harmoniously with the wildlife.

A guided nature walk is the perfect alternative to a game drive. Planning your luxury Serengeti safari trip:

Planning your luxury Serengeti safari trip should be a fun, interactive experience and Mallerby’s Luxury Travel will assist you the whole way, however, here are some of our top tips to consider before starting to plan:

The Serengeti can be visited year-round, however the best time to visit is from June to October for the best weather and exceptional wildlife viewing.

Whilst we could never guarantee you witnessing a dramatic river crossing during the annual wildebeest migration, the best months for you likely to see one are July and August.

Avoid visiting between March and mid-May as this is the long rainy season. The short rains are in November and December; however these are generally afternoon showers followed by sunshine.

We suggest a minimum of 4 nights for a Serengeti safari.

Tanzania is an incredible destination to visit as a stand-alone safari vacation, incorporating overnight stays in Arusha, Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area into your Serengeti itinerary.

The Mahale Mountains National Park in Tanzania also combines well with the Serengeti to offer a Big 5 Safari and Chimp Trekking experience.

Rubondo Island is a remote island in Tanzania’s Lake Victoria where elephants and chimpanzees roam wild. This experience combines well with Serengeti and offers a Big 5 Safari experience with a Chimpanzee habituation experience as well as forest walks, boating, fishing and birding.

Zanzibar on the Tanzanian Coast combines exceptionally well for a bush and beach escape and Mallerby’s has a selection of luxury accommodation options to suit your preferences.

There are a number of international airlines flying into Kilimanjaro International Airport, where we’ll meet you for the start of your trip. Your first night (or two) will be in Arusha, before heading on safari.

Getting around in Tanzania depends on where your next destination is, and more often than not, you’ll fly from one destination to the next. These comfortable, light aircraft are usually single or twin-engine aircraft that seat anything from 4 to 20 passengers, with everyone getting a window seat. They connect the remote wildernesses and offer you an aerial safari where you can delight in the landscapes below and view the wildlife from your plane window! The runways are in the middle of the wilderness areas, and you’ll be greeted directly off the plane by your ranger – there’s no baggage carousel or airport lounge, just straight from the plane into your game drive vehicle on safari.

Should you wish to explore further afield, Tanzania combines exceptionally well with Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda and Seychelles.

Concluding the Serengeti:

The Serengeti beckons with its untamed wilderness, mesmerizing wildlife, vibrant cultures, and luxurious offerings. A visit to this enchanting destination is an invitation to witness the grandeur of the Great Wildebeest Migration, embark on exhilarating Big 5 safaris, immerse yourself in local traditions, soar above the plains in a hot air balloon, and experience lavish accommodations that redefine luxury. Let Mallerby’s Luxury Travel curate an unforgettable journey tailored to your desires, ensuring that every aspect of your luxury Serengeti safari adventure exceeds your expectations and leaves you with cherished memories that will last a lifetime.
