CONSERVATION & COMMUNITY FOCUSED SAFARIS
Conserve our Africa Hands-On
CONSERVATION & COMMUNITY FOCUSED SAFARIS
It’s one thing to go on safari, but a whole different story when you get to experience the ‘behind the scene’ workings of a reserve! The web of interlinking between conservation, community and sustainability is so complex and fascinating, and traverses not only neighbouring reserves, but farms and countries throughout the continent. Understanding the why, who and what’s of these intricate complexities, their use of the latest technology, their different methods for conserving the wildlife and the land so that we may pass these onto future generations “better than we left it” is just phenomenal and an absolute privilege to experience. These experiences are for a limited number of guests and generally carry an age restriction of 16 years.
“If we do not do something to prevent it, Africa’s animals, and the places in which they live, will be lost to our world, and her children, forever.”
-Nelson Mandela

CONSERVATION FOCUSED SAFARIS
This safari is very close to our hearts, for without these incredible people and projects, safaris may be very different experiences… and without our clients visits, we wouldn’t be able to fund these projects either… a sort of symbiosis where all parties are benefitting and the beauty of it all is that we’re all going to leave the planet knowing that our future generations will have the opportunity to experience these extraordinary encounters as we have.
Every guest plays a vital role in conservation initiatives and has the opportunity to get involved. We invite you to help protect, support and nurture our beautiful continent for generations to come, and help us to make a difference by getting involved in one (or more) of these incredible projects below. We will advise you on what’s available in the area/s that you will be visiting and which projects are age-appropriate for your children – it’s exciting, fulfilling and doing good feels good! Some may be half or full day visits and others multi-day experiences – either way, we will seamlessly curate these into your fuller itinerary. Every encounter is another chapter in your adventure book.
WILDLIFE CONSERVATION
Take to the skies on a thrilling helicopter ride, spotting and recording the rich diversity of wildlife below; track critically endangered desert-adapted black rhino on foot; help the team to monitor leopards and lions in Akagera; plant trees for re-forestation projects; learn about anti-poaching initiatives, the latest technology being used and how collaborative efforts with the surrounding land -owners and locals have collectively created positive change.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS
Spread across the continent, we are proudly affiliated to a fantastic collection of independent, well-managed, innovative and inspiring development projects and charitable organizations across a broad spectrum of sectors from food gardens to skills development and empowerment to children and the elderly to the arts and culture. We can arrange for you to spend the day with a local guide, visiting the projects that are near and dear to your heart.
PACK FOR A PURPOSE
Pack for a Purpose allows you to make a big impact in the communities you visit. You’ll simply use a small amount of space in your luggage to pack supplies needed by the community projects in the areas you’re visiting, and the accommodations where you’re staying are generally affiliated and will happily drop off your donations. For example, just 2.27 kg (5 lb) amounts to one of the following: – 400 pencils or 5 deflated soccer balls, supplied with an inflation device.

SPEND TIME WITH RESEARCHERS
Behind the scenes, all over the continent, are remarkable people – researchers, conservationists, philanthropists, community members – that are involved in specific projects that they’re passionate about. These projects are founded on research, rehabilitation and community involvement. Learn about the world’s most trafficked animal, the pangolin; assist with collaring wild dog packs and monitoring the endangered rhino; partake in the Kibale Forest Chimpanzee Habituation Experience or protecting a variety of our marine life.
