BEST TIME TO TRAVEL
OVERVIEW
Zambia has a sub-tropical climate and two specific seasons, the dry winter months from May to October and the summer rainy season from December to April.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
May to November is the dry season, so the days are warm, the nights are cool and the wildlife spotting is at its best.
WHEN TO AVOID
November through to May are known for the rains and most lodges are closed over this period. October is the hottest month of the year.
BEST GAME VIEWING
May and June are known as the best months as it’s the most scenic, fantastic for wildlife sightings and you can see Victoria Falls in all her glory!
BEST FOR BIRDING
September is the best month as the birding is fantastic with sightings of eagles and storks preying on fish in the depleted pools.
BEST WILDEBEEST MIGRATION
The migration begins in the Liuwa Plains around mid-November with up to 40,000 blue wildebeest on the move.
BEST FOR VICTORIA FALLS
February to August. March is when it’s at its fullest and by October there’s no water on the Zambian side of the Falls.

Livingstone
The original capital of Zambia, Livingstone is named after the legendary explorer, David Livingstone and shares its border with Zimbabwe, allowing for easy access between the countries. It offers a plethora of activities to suit all travelers from walking and hiking to white water rafting!
Mosi-oa-Tunya
This National Park shares a border with the city of Livingstone and is home to some of the most striking sections of the Victoria Falls, aptly named the legendary “Smoke which Thunders’ and a proclaimed UNESCO Heritage site.
Kafue NP
The 2nd largest National Park in Africa and one of the oldest on the continent, Kafue NP is largely unexplored and teeming with an impressive biodiversity. Expect front row seats to dramatic and thrilling wildlife encounters on game drive and boat safari. Open May to November annually.
Lower Zambezi NP
The lower Zambezi NP is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most spectacular wilderness areas, where large herds of wildlife roam and gather on the banks of the Lower Zambezi River to drink. Famous for leopard and elephant herds, it’s best explored on foot.
South Luangwa NP
Known as the Valley of Leopard, South Luangwa NP is best known for its walking safaris – an exceptional immersive experience in one of the most beautiful wildlife sanctuaries in the world. Expect fantastic predator action on game drive, walking safari and seasonal boating.
Liuwa Plains
Considered one of Africa’s best kept secrets, this protected area is home to the second largest wildebeest movement on the continent. It has large prides of lion, a flourishing cheetah population and attracts rare and endangered bird species. Open between October and July annually.
