ITINERARY OVERVIEW

Embark on the Ultimate Family Safari in Kenya!

Travelling with children is one of the most precious experiences – being able to see the adventure unfold through their eyes and capture the memories of these incredible experiences in years to come, is such a privilege as a parent.

Day 1 - 2: Samburu Spectacle

Arrive at Nairobi International Airport, where the magic begins! A private transfer to Wilson Airport for your scenic flight to the Samburu region sets you off on your safari experience.

Sasaab, a luxury tented camp, awaits. Perched on the edge of a river valley with a masterful blend of Swahili and Moroccan architectural design, the 100m² canvas-sided rooms with private pools and sweeping views over the Laikipia Plateau sets the stage for a magical experience.

Here the safari experience is very different to that found in other parts of Kenya. Situated just outside Samburu National Reserve in Kenya’s Northern Frontier District, the landscape is dotted with mountains, wildlife and a rich cultural heritage. It is a place of abundant natural diversity with an astounding number of animals, from elephants to cheetah and wild dogs to the ‘Samburu Special Five’ (five species unique to the area): the Beisa oryx, reticulated giraffe, Grevy’s zebra, Gerenuk antelope and Somali ostrich.

Nothing beats the excitement of a safari in Samburu, as there is so much to see and do in this exciting landscape. From thrilling games drives to see species unique to the area, to exploring the wilderness on foot, camel or quadbike, to authentic cultural experiences, fly-camping under the stars and epic helicopter experiences, there’s something for everyone. Enjoy cook-out bush breakfasts in Samburu National Reserve and encounter the majestic herds of elephants for which Samburu is renowned. Learn about the myriad of birdlife on a nature walk with your guide and take in the incredible scenery from the top of ‘sundowner rock’, a magical place where you can watch the sun sink low and contemplate your safari sightings of the day. At camp, a stunning infinity pool and spa area create serene spaces in which to relax against a backdrop of nature, perfect for those seeking a slower safari experience whilst others are out exploring.

Day 3 – 4: Rhino’s and More

A 20-minute private charter flight takes you to Solio Lodge, a haven tucked in the valley between the lofty slopes of Mount Kenya and the peaks of the Aberdare Mountains. It’s the only accommodation on this incredible 45,000-acre Solio Game Reserve and is famed for its unique and mind-blowing rhino viewing experiences – it’s not uncommon to witness up to 40 rhinos at a time!

There is so much else to see and do in addition to the wonderful rhino experience. Encounter an abundance of wildlife on game drive, from lions, leopard and cheetah to zebra and a whole range of antelope species. Sip cocktails with giraffes. Gallop across open plains on horseback. Unwind with a massage beside a crackling fire. Cycle through the bush. Visit a local school, flower or coffee farm. Soar above the mountain tops in a private helicopter. Fly fish in the crystal-clear streams. Enjoy cook-out bush breakfasts on morning game drives and dramatic sundowners next to our long-horned friends. Solio offers a fabulously well-rounded safari experience for all ages.

Day 5 – 7: Masai Mara Magic

Fly to the Masai Mara, home to Sala’s Camp – a magnificent retreat nestled along the banks of the Sand River. Renowned for delivering an authentic safari experience with exceptional personalised service and fine dining, Sala’s Camp seamlessly combines a traditional ‘under canvas’ safari experience with contemporary comfort, including private plunge pools and glass fronted tents, ensuring an unforgettable and magical Mara retreat.

Here you’ll explore the famous Masai Mara National Reserve on morning and evening game drives when the wildlife is most active, experiencing one of the world’s most prolific game areas. From the ‘big five’ to the annual wildebeest migration (June – September), the Masai Mara is a paradise for nature lovers. Bush breakfasts, sundowners, nature walks and spa treatments add a touch of magic to your safari.

Day 8 – 11: Beach Bliss

Next stop: Beach! Fly to Ukunda, Diani, for your 4 nights at Kinondo Kwetu.

Relax on the sun-kissed beaches, swim in crystal-clear waters, horse ride, do yoga, play tennis, indulge in a holistic spa treatment, and experience a myriad of water sports from kite surfing to deep-sea fishing and scuba diving. Kinondo Kwetu is a tropical haven offering not just a beach escape, but endless family fun.

Day 12: Giraffe’s Galore

Fly back to Nairobi, where Giraffe Manor beckons. Set within 12 acres of sprawling private land, Giraffe Manor is an exclusive boutique hotel offering the unique experience of having breakfast and afternoon tea with giraffes! This truly remarkable encounter allows you to get up close and personal with Rothschild’s giraffes—it’s wild and wonderful!

Whilst in Nairobi, visit the breeding and conservation programme at the Giraffe Centre, meet an orphaned elephant at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, wander through the Karen Blixen Museum, dedicated to the great Danish explorer or purchase gifts and keepsakes from Kenyan artists and craftsmen at the market.

Day 13: Farewell

Bid farewell to your incredible journey, leaving with memories etched in your hearts. For those with extra time, unwind at The Retreat at Giraffe Manor before heading to Nairobi International Airport for your onward flight. These moments shared with your family will be cherished for a lifetime.
